What to expect on the day of your RYA First Aid Instructor Course:

  • Be prepared to fully participate in discussions with the Trainer and other delegates and to participate in the lessons given by your peers.
  • Your subject knowledge will be thoroughly tested to ensure you have the requisite depth and breadth of knowledge.
  • You may be asked to deliver a five-minute presentation on any aspect of the syllabus
  • You will be required to demonstrate CPR (using the 2015 guidelines) to a very high standard including the protocol for drowning and the use of a pocket mask.
  • You will be asked to complete a written test on basic first aid and the additional subjects covered on the RYA First Aid course, including the contents of Category C Kit. The pass mark is 80% and the test is part of the course assessment criteria.

The Trainer will provide feedback at the end of the course and either recommend you as an RYA First Aid Instructor or give you an action plan. If you are issued with an action plan, this will be discussed with you during your debrief.
