Rudderless Dinghy Sailing

Aim:

To steering using sheets and balance

 

Safety: 

Ensure practice is completed in a large, clear, safe and open area

 

Key Points: 

  • Raise centreboard / daggerboard to 1/4 up position
  • Consider reefing?
  • Apply Jib sheet to turn dinghy away from wind (bear away) and heel to windward
  • Apply Main sheet to turn dinghy towards wind (luff up) and heel to leeward
  • Balance the two sails to achieve straight line progress 
  • Aim for controlled gybes to stop yourself doing circles... (i.e. pull boom over using main sheet)
