Sailing a dinghy backwards

Why?

Get away from a dock, enclosed area, mooring or to leave a group of boats.

Top tips:

  • Start with dinghy head to wind and dinghy in a stopped position
  • Centralise the rudder, Bring centreboard / Dagger board 1/2 way up
  • Double Handers: Helm face backwards, Crew pushes boom out so its 90 degrees
  • Only use small corrective rudder movements
