Anaphylactic Shock

Anaphylactic shock may happen after someone comes into contact with an allergen. Body produces excessive amount of histamine, which affects respiratory system. 

Symptoms: 

  • Feeling faint
  • Difficulty breathing / swallowing
  • Itchy eyes or skin
  • Fast heart beat
  • Abdominal pain, nausea / vomiting
  • Swollen mouth, throat, tongue, eyes, lips, hands or feet
  • Wheezing
  • Confusion & / or agitation
  • Signs of shock

Treatment: 

Remove trigger

Lay or sit casualty down

If have adrenaline auto injector (i.e. EpiPen) ask them to inject themselves (or assist them if unable)

Contact emergency services 

If no improvement or symptoms return repeat adrenaline auto injector doses at 5 min intervals

Monitor
